Shikakai a is a small shrub-like tree which grows in India. It's pod-like fruit is collected, dried and then ground into a fine powder. Our shikakai powder is organically certified.
Shikakai powder is used to:
- to cleanse hair
- for promoting hair growth
- preventing dandruff
- strengthening the hair from its roots
Due to these benefits, this powder was named shikakai which means "fruit for the hair".
Traditionally, no conditioner is used since shikakai also acts as a detangler. This ancient product is probably the world's original pH balanced hair cleanser and used as a an herbal shampoo.
Do note everyone's hair is very individual and should you need to, please use a conditioner, ACV rinse or moisture rich leave in or oil for best results.

Better than shampoo!
I tried this for the first time making a simple paste with a little water and some rosewood essential oil. I let it sit on my scalp for 5 mins then massaged my head with water in the shower. My hair feels so strong, full of body, clean, shiny, and ever so curly! I don't think I will ever go back to a store-bought shampoo. Amazing.

How did I live without Shikakai!!!!!!!! I use the product as a shampoo and occasionally as a deep conditioner. I stopped using commercial products on my hair six months ago and moved forward with Shikakai, Cassia, Henna, Amla Oil my results are indescribable!!!!!

New Shampoo
I have always added Shikakai to my hennas. For the first time I used it as a shampoo and LOVE IT. It has been over two years since I have used over the counter shampoos and conditioners, using ACV, clays or various home made hair masks instead. The Shikakai is outstanding!! My hair is soft, tangle free, shiny, frizz free and full of body. I tried it on my daughters hair next and her hair came out beautiful. I mixed it with aloe juice and about tblsp of honey. The best part about this treatment is that my daughter and I both did not experience any shrinkage. I think my texture is 3c/4a, and my daughter's texture is probably 4a/4b.

Greasy hair
I used this with brahmi power, neem, and yogurt. I made a paste and let it sit for 30min. After rinsing it out my hair seems really greasy and stringy. No bounce or shine.
Henna Sooq Reply: We're so sorry to hear this. It sounds like you didn't use the correct recipe for bouncy, shiny hair. Those herbs don't add volume. We recommend you use amla powder for volume and bounce. Yoghurt may have been too heavy for your hair as well since you were left feeling greasy and your hair was not happy. Please omit the yoghurt, and just use water. Please also follow the directions we send with our products for best results. This isn't one of our recommended recipes- Khadija -
Soft, manageable curls
I wish I’d known about the benefits of Shikakai powder as a natural hair wash and detangler years ago. Think of the time and money I would have saved. But, I am glad I know about it now. Particularly because my hair is naturally dry and winter makes it worse. Today I have third-day hair, and the curls and softness are still holding up. My new ‘go to’ product.
