How Henna Sooq is Doing Our Part
At Henna Sooq, one simple plant inspires all our products: Henna. The flowering Henna plant is native to Africa, Asia, and even Australia. It grows in arid North African countries such as Morocco, as well as near-eastern Asian countries such as Pakistan and India and in the Middle East. The Henna leaves are the source of dyes for hair, skin, and even fabrics. While the bark can be used to treat jaundice and inflammation. No part of the Henna plant goes to waste. Henna is proven to improve hair growth and overall healthy and stronger hair strands. Henna allows customers to achieve their desired hair color in a way that is healthy both for them and the planet.
We also offer Ayurvedic herbs, hair treatments and organic essential oils to cleanse, strengthen, condition and promote hair growth. Our hibiscus petal powder gives hair a gorgeous shine while enhancing red tones along with your henna recipe. While our organic fenugreek and amla powders are excellent for hair growth. Our Moroccan cold pressed organic sweet orange essential oil gives an invigorating boost to henna and Ayurvedic recipes. Our steam distilled organic lavender essential oil is a versatile oil with a fresh, sweet scent. The soothing oil is perfect for skin treatments and reduces stress.
Ayurvedic treatments are all about the balance between spiritual, physical, and emotional health. It is an ancient holistic practice that nourishes the body and spirit without desecrating the Earth. As the source of all our ingredients, we honor the planet and the incredible ingredients it has given us. The word “Ayurvedic” is Sanskrit for longevity.
This Earth Day, we must think not only about our own longevity but that of the planet. Ayurvedic treatments have been helping humanity for thousands of years and by fighting for environmental justice, it can help humanity for thousands of years to come.
Whether young or old, rich or poor, urban or rural, Henna has a long, rich history of unifying diverse communities in the name of health and wellness. This Earth Day, we can create a sustainable future by looking far back into the past. We can look to Morocco, where mineral rich clays form in the Atlas Mountains, fragrant pink roses bloom in the wild, and fields of Henna blossom deep in the Sahara Desert.
Since the founding of Earth Day over fifty years ago, an estimated one billion global citizens have mobilized to fight for our planet, and over 190 countries honor the holiday. Henna Sooq, our small, woman-owned business hears the call and welcomes anyone who is embracing healthy, sustainable beauty. There is no effort too small when it comes to saving the planet.
With the farms we work with use solar power and work by hand to do most of the labor. When we are choosing packaging for our brand, we choose packaging we can recycle and that clients can repurpose. It's also important to us that we use natural ingredients and processes that do not harm the planet.

The History of Earth Day
On April 22nd, 1970, twenty million Americans took to the streets to demand environmental justice. 150 years of industrial development proved devastating to both human and planetary health. In the decades preceding the historic protest, America was producing almost unmeasurably high emissions through factories and gas-guzzling cars. A 1969 oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara inspired Senator Gaylord Nelson to mobilize an 85 member team to educate the public on air and water pollution. Even conservative Congressman Pete McCloskey joined forces with Senator Nelson. The two congressmen, along with young activist Dennis Hayes, announced April 22nd as the day to demand environmental justice.
All of America was galvanized by the call. Young or old, rich or poor, urban or rural, or even Democrat or Republican, Americans from all walks of life united in their love for our planet. During a time of high political strife caused by the Vietnam War, this movement provided an important reason for reconciliation. The day, christened as “Earth Day” in the United States, led directly to the passage of several environmental regulations and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency. In 1990, Hayes recreated his 1970 success on a global scale, as 200 million people from 141 countries uplifted the movement.
The power of Earth Day draws from the power of the individual. The individual who chooses to stand up for their planet and make choices that will help Earth heal. And part of that responsibility entails holding businesses responsible for their treatment of the environment, and choosing companies that use natural, organic ingredients to create Earth-Friendly products.
