I created an easy DIY Chebe Hair Butter and Deep Conditioning Mask using only raw, natural ingredients found in Africa. The recipe:
- 4 ounces of Organic Shea Butter
- 1/8 cup of African Chebe Powder
- 5-8 pumps of Organic Argan Oil
- 5 drops of Sweet Orange Essential Oil
- 5 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil
Ideally slightly melt the shea butter, as it'll be easier to mix the chebe into and other ingredients. You can melt the shea butter over a double broiler or in a small crock pot.
Add all of your ingredients together and mix really well. To use this hair butter you can do so only cleansed, damp hair strands. Apply it on each hair strand, and then place them into a section as two strand twists. Complete this on all hair strands, avoiding your scalp.
Leave this on under heat, or at room temperature for 1-2 hours, or even overnight. Then wash it out. It's very important to be prepared to take your time to wash it out as Chebe is pretty grainy. Use a very strong shower head and wash it out thoroughly and gently. You can even use the soaking method to loosen it up more.
Make sure all of the Chebe is out of your hair as if any is left in, it may be irritating.
Once all of it has been removed, you can moisturize, dry and style as usual. This treatment can be repeated every 3-4 weeks.
